Mr. Sherif Mostafa, President of the African Wushu Kungfu Federation and
Vice President of IWUF, has announced that wushu has been accepted as an
official sport in the African Youth Games, which will be held in Algiers,
Algeria July 17-27, 2018.
The acceptance was confirmed in a letter from Major General Ahmed Nasser,
the President of the Association of African Sports Confederations, and
Lassana Palinfro, the President of the Association of National Olympic
Committees of Africa. President Mostafa will attend a technical coordination
meeting in March for a visit to the sport facilities in Algiers, and for a
discussion with the organizers of rules and provisions, qualification
standards, and representation and participation of wushu in the Games.
IWUF President Yu Zaiqing remarks, “I am extremely pleased that wushu has
been accepted into the African Youth Games, as it signals a strong and
positive step for the development of our sport on the continent of Africa. I
commend the hard work and efforts of Mr. Mostafa and his team, and
congratulate the African Wushu Kungfu Federation on its great success in
this notable achievement. We look forward to a fine showing from Africa’s
wushu youth in the upcoming Games in Algiers.”
Mr. Mostafa says, “After many years, this dream has come true for our
federation in Africa. I offer my heartfelt thanks to all the members of AFWF
for their support and collaboration, and I am eager to continue our work
together to make this a bright and successful wushu competition.”
The African Youth Games is an international multi-sport event held every
four years to complement the current All-Africa Games. Wushu joins 27 other
sports in the 2018 African Youth Games. This accomplishment is a significant
milestone for the AFWF, as it is steadily growing the sport of wushu on the
African continent.
